At the last Vision trade show, GigE – as an alternative to FireWire, USB, and CameraLink – was referred to as the new future standard. The first camera manufacturers have already presented camera specific cables for the consumer market. However, the industrial market for visual automation demands that the Ethernet cables tolerate high mechanical loads. igus® have developed the world’s first GigE cable for continuous dynamic use in energy chains to meet this need.

The new Ethernet special cable Chainflex CFBUS.044 provides higher data rates in severe industrial environments and results in a high service life even at very high cycle rates. Developed, for example, for quality and process monitoring applications, the oil-resistant GigE cable has already been successfully fatigue tested over 100 metres of travel (50 metres of cable length).

This means that the energy and data supply experts at igus® are now offering FireWire, USB and GigE cables specifically for highly dynamic use in chains. The cable's bus pairs, which are manufactured with harmonised special insulation, are stranded together with an optimised short pitch. This extremely flexible tinned copper shield, results in high damping stability even at high cycle rates. The high-pressure extruded, abrasion-resistant, and flame-retardant TPE outer jacket also offers the necessary cable protection to prevent core breakage. The new cable is UL- and CSA-certified and conforms to DESINA standards.
