Offering 30% reduction in contact resistance, the FCI PwrBlade ULTRA delivers an increased current carrying capacity in a smaller form factor.

The connectors overall height of 9.6mm makes them suitable for traditional 1U rackmounted equipment or in PCB daughter cards spaced as closely as 15mm on pitch. Featuring a current density of up to 260A per linear inch, the connectors are made with halogen-free housings and proprietary plating that improves current carrying capacity. 'Blind-mating', when hot-swapping power supplies and facilitating modular system assembly, is provided due to the incorporated molded-in guide pins.

The connectors have been designed for AC and DC power distribution applications in the data communications and telecommunications industries. These next-generation connectors are also suitable for general power and signal connections in servers, switches, storage enclosures, telecommunications equipment, industrial PCs, and instrumentation equipment.

“PwrBlade ULTRA™ connectors were developed specifically for applications requiring higher current density and reduced power loss in a low profile form factor,” says Michael Blanchfield, Portfolio Director for Power Solutions at FCI. “Its contact design is drawn from the heritage of PwrBlade® connectors and is adaptable to both high and low voltage requirements. This results in improved performance without an increase in PCB real estate.”

Unveiled at the 2014 DesignCon trade show, samples of the PwrBlade ULTRA will be available in mid-February 2014.
