Angled BNC sockets for direct soldering onto printed circuit boards have been introduced by Multi-Contact. The flat surface on the new sockets minimises torsion stresses on the pcb as the cable is secured and their right-angled configuration also reduces lateral strain.
Touch protection up to 1000V (CAT III) / 600V (CAT IV) is provided, in accordance with the IEC/EN 61010-1 standard.

The shield of the socket consists of two insulated semi-circular contacts, which provide a switching function through the action of the plug being inserted. The contact socket of the inner conductor is in gold-plated brass. Four locating pins are connected to additional shielding.

The touch protected BNC sockets are compatible with conventional male BNC connectors. However, in that configuration the 1000V touch protection no longer applies to the whole system.

Available in red and black, the BNC sockets are primarily designed for use in high impedance insulated inputs for oscilloscopes.

Also available from Multi-Contact for mounting on printed circuit boards are 4mm diameter angled sockets, accepting 2mm round pin contacts. These are touch protected to 1000V/24A (CAT III).
