Investment enhances European modification capability

Hammond Electronics offers more than 5,000 standard designs and sizes of plastic, metal, extruded and die-cast aluminium enclosures. The company has recently made substantial investments in equipment, people and systems at its Basingstoke European HQ to expand its in-house modification capacity, improve service levels and reduce lead times.

Using the original manufacturer to turn a standard enclosure into an application-specific housing offers customers significant quantifiable advantage in terms of product cost, time to market reduction and logistics simplicity in addition to the substantial qualitative benefits of being able to draw on the extensive experience of the company’s technical and design teams.

Hammond’s modification capabilities include CNC milling, drilling, punching, engraving and printing, EMC coatings, front panel overlays, custom colours for moulded enclosures and a variety of different paint finishes for metal enclosures. In addition to the fabrication capability, service is another key focus. PDF drawings or CAD files for all products are available online, allowing customers easily to specify the modifications required.

Additional CNC machines have been installed, boosting throughput by more than 40%. Updated production engineering, project management and production control systems have been introduced, an additional building on the site has been dedicated to the modifications department and a production manager specifically to oversee the modification activities has recently been recruited.
