Motherboards feature DDR4 memory technology
GIGABYTE Technology has introduced its latest lineup of motherboards based on the latest IntelC230 series chipset family. Supporting the Intel Xeon processor E3-1200 V5 product family (former codename Greenlow), this lineup includes at launch two workstation motherboards and two server motherboards.
Formerly known as Greenlow, this generation of single socket server and workstation processors is based on the 14nm process technology and designed with the Skylake microarchitecture. Among the main features of this product family is the adoption of the DDR4 memory technology within the Xeon E3 line of processors, which brings a significant memory speed and capacity boost over the previous generation (up to 64GB at 2133MHz compared to up to 32GB at 1866MHz with the previous-gen). The other main new feature is the increase of the number and speed of PCIe lanes available from up to eight Gen2 lanes to up to 20 Gen3 lanes, which opens the door for wider board configuration possibilities.
The MW31-SP0 is GIGABYTE's first ATX workstation motherboard supporting the Intel Xeon processor E3-1200 V5 product family. With its comprehensive set of features and GIGABYTE's server grade components and build quality, this motherboard is a suitable solution for professional tower workstations requiring a high level of durability. Notably, it features a mezzanine card slot with four PCIe lanes with custom mounting sockets to receive one of our proprietary LAN controller cards.
Positioned right between the board’s CPU socket and its rear I/O, it can be used to add functions (for example a Thunderbolt port, or an additional M.2 slot) to the standard interface and fit into a larger range of possible network scenarios. Moreover, it includes comprehensive audio connectivity with five audio jacks and an optical S/PDIF output on the rear panel, as well as a front audio header, an S/PDIF-In and an S/PDIF-Out header on the board.
The MW21-SE0 is a microATX form factor entry-level workstation board, designed with minimal specifications for users looking for a simple and affordable yet highly durable solution to access the features of the Xeon E3-1200 V3 product family.
