Expansion board enables high-side switch evaluation

STMicroelectronics' 0.5 A (typ.) industrial digital output expansion board allows the evaluation of the fast, safe, and efficient driving performance and comprehensive diagnostic capabilities of the smart IPS161HF high-side switch in industrial applications allowing the implementation of Safety Integrity Level guidelines.

The board is in stock at Digi-Key Electronics.

The board, which is part of the STM32 Open Development Environment, includes 3 kV optocouplers to insulate the interface with the microcontroller on a separate NUCLEO-F401RE or NUCLEO-G431RB development board via Arduino UNO R3 connectors.

The system can be stacked with a second expansion board for dual 0.5 A channel digital output module or single 0.5 A channel safety digital output module development.

It can also be stacked with a sister X-NUCLEO-OUT08A1 expansion board for dual 2 A channel output current development.

Features include low power dissipation, fast decay for inductive loads, open load detection and diagnostics and overload and overheating protections with thermal shutdown.

The board offers supply rail reverse polarity protection and 3 kV galvanic isolation.

It is EMC compliant according to IEC61000-4-2, IEC61000-4-3, IEC61000-4-5.
