Eaton Offers Three-Phase RCBO for Memshield 3

Distribution boards in the popular Memshield 3 range from Eaton’s Electrical Sector are now even more versatile; thanks to the introduction of a new three-phase RCBO for feeding three-phase loads that require earth-leakage protection.

The new RCBO is a three-pole plus permanently connected neutral device that fits directly into the Memshield 3 board, thereby entirely eliminating the inconvenience and extra cost associated with using externally mounted RCDs to protect three-phase loads.

Offering line-voltage independent tripping and fully compatible with the standard busbar system used in Memshield 3 boards, the RCBO provides overcurrent protection for loads in the range 6 to 32 A and offers earth-leakage trip sensitivities of 30 mA, 100 mA and 300 mA. The Type A earth leakage protection means it is effective with both ac and pulsating dc supplies.

The RCBO is designed for use with 240/415 V 50 Hz supplies and has a breaking capacity of 10 kA, making it eminently suitable for use in almost all commercial and industrial electrical installations. It is rated to withstand surge voltages up to 4 kV. The box clamp terminals have a barrier to prevent incorrect cable / busbar insertion.

To enhance user convenience and safety, Eaton’s new three-phase RCBOs are fitted with two indicator flags, the first of which provides instant visual confirmation of whether the contacts are open or closed, while the second provides similar confirmation of the device’s trip status.

The RCBO takes up 4 pole ways in a 3-phase distribution board, i.e. L1 / L2 / L3 and the 4th pole of the device fits over, and is insulated from, the L phase position of the neighbour circuit. Therefore the neighbour circuit only has two phase circuits available for single phase circuit feeds or would need to be blanked off.
