Squeezed in a footprint smaller than 1mm2, STMicroelectronics’ new TS985 comparator combines battery-friendly micropower performance with enhanced dynamic range and high speed. The 0.8mm x 1.2mm x 0.52mm Chip-Scale Package (CSP) makes the device ideal for space-constrained applications such as smartphones, smartwatches, digital cameras, IoT devices, and portable test equipment.

The TS985 can operate from a supply voltage as low as 1.8V, allowing use in systems powered from a single cell or generally designed to operate from low voltages to save overall power consumption.

Typical operating current of 14µA also helps minimise drain on the battery. High-speed performance is assured, as typical propagation delay of 300ns ensures rapid response to fast-changing analog signals.

Through its rail-to-rail input, the TS985 accepts signal amplitudes up to the supply voltage. This enables designers to take full advantage of the limited dynamic range when operating from a low voltage, and so create portable systems that deliver superior performance and features.

Major features of the TS985:

• 6-bump CSP (0.8mm x 1.2mm x 0.52mm) with 400µm ball pitch;
• 14µA typical no-load current (VCC+ = 2.7V, VCC- = 0V, Tamb = 25°C);
• 1.8V to 5V supply voltage range;
• Rail-to-rail inputs;
• Push-Pull output;
• High ESD tolerance: 2kV HBM / 200V MM.

The TS985 is available immediately, priced from $0.29 for a minimum order of 1,000 units. Alternative pricing options are available for larger quantities.
