Modality & Heidi Health largest clinical rollout of ambient AI
Modality Partnership has partnered with Heidi Health to implement the UK’s largest clinical rollout of ambient AI.
Starting now, Heidi’s AI medical scribe, which reduces the administrative burden for clinicians by automating administrative tasks, will be integrated across Modality – benefiting almost half a million registered patients nationwide.
The partnership comes at a critical time, with the NHS facing unprecedented workforce shortages. A recent survey by the Royal College of GPs has found that 42% of UK GPs are unlikely to be working in general practice in 5 years’ time, with over half (51%) citing stress as their primary reason for leaving the profession. Workforce pressures are being exacerbated by the significant amount of time clinicians spend on admin, limiting their ability to interact with patients while escalating the risk of burnout.
Heidi Health’s AI medical scribe transcribes and processes conversations between clinicians and patients to produce clinical notes and any follow-up materials required, such as referral letters, care plans, or assessments. Streamlining time-intensive administrative tasks will vastly reduce the administrative burden and cognitive load on GPs, allowing them to work more efficiently, improve work-life balance, reduce the risk of burnout, and focus more on patient care. In the earlier pilot rollout with Modality, 4 in 5 GPs using the tool said it saved them time, with the same number reporting that the tool enabled them to build a better rapport with patients.
Founded in 2019, Heidi Health is trusted by clinicians in over 50 countries. The company, led by a team of active and former medical professionals, has raised a total of $15 million AUD in funding, including a recent $10 million Series A round led by Blackbird Ventures.
This partnership complements Modality’s ongoing digital transformation initiatives which fully aligns with the “Analogue to Digital” shifts the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England are moving towards, reinforcing its position as a leader in modernising NHS primary care.
Vincent Sai, Group CEO and Partner at Modality Partnership, said: “Our partnership with Heidi Health is a major step forward in our mission to modernise primary care. We've seen firsthand how administrative tasks contribute to GP burnout, impacting both clinician well-being and patient care. Heidi’s innovative AI scribe will free up valuable time for our GPs, enabling them to focus on delivering the highest standard of care to our patients.”
