Members of the 5G Device Forerunner Initiative were brought together by China Mobile in Shanghai to publish the Guideline for 5G Terminal Products. China Mobile and the other members of the 5G Device Forerunner Initiative signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

The 5G Device Forerunner Initiative is led by China Mobile and was launched during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2018. Its objective is to clarify the technical requirements of 5G terminals, speed up 5G terminal development, explore the paths for industrial development, promote innovation within the 5G terminal industry and help bring products to maturity.

After half a year of hard work, the action plan achieved initial results.

Working on the Guideline for 5G Terminal Products provided China Mobile with the first opportunity to clarify 5G terminal requirements and to investigate, identify and define application scenarios, product types, technical requirements, current difficulties, etc. – aspects that are of major relevance to the development of 5G terminals.

Meanwhile, China Mobile Terminal together with the China Mobile Research Institute, on behalf of China Mobile, signed memoranda of understanding with 28 partners and held a signing ceremony.

Rohde & Schwarz signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the 5G Device Forerunner Initiative as a representative of the T&M industry.

Anne Stephan, Vice President Market Segment Wireless Communications at Rohde & Schwarz, attended the ceremony and signed the memorandum.

Christian Leicher, President and CEO of Rohde & Schwarz, was invited to attend and witness the signing process.

With the rapid development of 5G, Rohde & Schwarz will provide stable and reliable test systems and solutions for 5G.

Since China Mobile has been at the forefront of 5G development up to the marketing stage, Rohde & Schwarz and China Mobile are cooperating very closely on many projects.

The signing of the MoU further clarified the responsibilities and requirements of all parties and laid a good foundation for effectively promoting developments within the 5G terminal industry.

Rohde & Schwarz will actively respond to the requirements of China Mobile and the requirements along the T&M value chain, and provide 5G test systems to facilitate and drive 5G terminal commercialisation.
