Long-life rechargeable Li-Ion cells suit extremes

Long-life rechargeable lithium-ion (Li-Ion) cells are designed specifically for use in harsh environments. The TLI series use technology found in Tadiran’s patented hybrid layer capacitor (HLC), which stores the high current pulses required for two-way wireless communications.

Compared to standard rechargeable Li-Ion cells, which have a short operating life (maximum five years), low maximum cycle life (1,000 cycles), high annual self-discharge (up to 60% per year), and limited temperature range (0 to 60°C) with no possibility of charging at low and high temperatures, the technology has been proven to deliver more than 25 years’ service life. The technology is modified to deliver reliable, long-term performance under extreme environmental conditions.

The batteries have an operating temperature (-40 to 85°C, with storage up to 90°C). They deliver high current pulses (up to 5A for AA cell) and have a low annual self-discharge rate of less than 5% and up to five times more life cycles (5,000). The glass-to-metal seal, rather than a crimped seal, limit leakage.

The series is available in AA and AAA diameters and custom battery packs. Cells can be recharged using DC power or be used in conjunction with photovoltaic solar systems or other energy harvesting devices.

The company also manufactures lithium thionyl chloride batteries, including a variety of primary cylindrical batteries, coin-sized cells, battery packs, and Pulses Plus batteries for high current pulse applications.
