IXYS announced two new 32mm die pressure contact phase control thyristors with current ratings of 530A and 795A and voltage from 1400V to 2500V. These new larger die size offer improved performance when compared to established part in the same overall mechanical footprint.

The device includes a new silicon die with advanced thermal bonding to a metal disc and encapsulated in a rugged hermetic ceramic packages The new improved package design includes fewer material interfaces and a much improved gate contact, with reduced thermal resistance and enhanced electrical performance.

These new devices will eventually replace the older designs which will be phased out as customers take advantage of these new improved products.

“These new introductions from IXYS UK demonstrate a continued commitment to further develop and improve our smaller press-pack device portfolio as well as our higher current devices. In a challenging market it is necessary to keep ahead of the competition in delivering devices which offer the maximum power to cost ratios. These two new devices are the first of several lower current devices which will be launched over the next three months,” commented Frank Wakeman, IXYS UK’s Marketing and Technical Support Manager.

The device is available in two current ratings and four different voltage grades. Designations are: N0795YN140 (Vdrm/Vrrm 1400 Volts and Itav 795A), N0795YN180 (Vdrm/Vrrm 1800 Volts and Itav 795A), N0530YN220 (Vdrm/Vrrm 2200 Volts and Itav 530A) and N0530YN250 (Vdrm/Vrrm 2500 Volts and Itav 530A).

Typical applications include soft starters, DC drives, and all controlled rectifier applications which require the higher reliability of a press-pack at these lower current ratings.
