The Women’s Engineering Society (WES) Annual Conference is just around the corner, bringing together women and allies from all engineering disciplines for a two-day conference.

The event on 27—28th April 2023, is being held at the Millennium Point in Birmingham. This year the theme will focus on safety and security.

The event will showcase inspiring role models such as Alison Baptiste CBE, Director of Public and Security Services at the Infrastructure and Projects Authority and Dr Emma Taylor CISSP CEng FIMechE FSaRS FRSA, Visiting Professor in Digital Safety and Security, Cranfield University. It will also bring together key industry experts together to discuss important topics such as developing effective returners programmes, defining the line for personal safety and the struggle of ethical engineering.

Sponsored by McLaren Racing, Jaguar Land Rover, and Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, this is an unmissable opportunity for women engineers to network with influential experts from across the industry and find out more about leading employers.

The headline partners said of the event: “McLaren Racing Engage is a flagship programme within our sustainability agenda dedicated to creating a truly diverse and inclusive workforce, aiming to address skill shortages and systemic inequalities in STEM. It is an important priority for McLaren, and we are proud to include Women’s Engineering Society as one of our expert partners of the Engage Programme,” Kate O’Hara-Hatchley, McLaren Racing’s Head of Diversity, Early Careers and Development.

“Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains are delighted to be a Headline Partner of the Women’s Engineering Society at the 2023 Annual Conference. Together we are committed to empowering, inspiring, and nurturing the best female talent in Motorsport and STEM by challenging barriers to access and creating opportunities to thrive.”

Alongside the exhibition that runs for the full 2 days, there are sessions on climate change and cyber security as well as looking at how digital technology can improve safety and security for women.

The WES annual conference is the key focus of the year for women in engineering and will showcase how organisations are striving to improve diversity and empower women in their careers.
