DigiKey at embedded world 2024 with Analog Devices’ Frederik Dostal

At embedded world 2024, on the DigiKey booth, Paige West speaks with Frederik Dostal, Power Specialist at Analog Devices (ADI) about Powering the Intelligent Edge.

In the domain of factory automation, enhancing Intelligent Edge capabilities plays a pivotal role in minimising productivity losses. A prime factor contributing to these losses is factory downtime, characterised by halts in production lines that lead to financial setbacks for businesses. Statistics reveal that factories on average encounter around 800 hours annually of production line stoppages, equivalent to about 15 hours each week. Such downtime significantly impacts a company’s revenue and profitability. For instance, a scenario where a car manufacturing plant halts production can result in a loss of approximately £22,000 per minute, accumulating to £1.3 million per hour or about £20 million weekly.

The integration of intelligence at the edge has demonstrated considerable benefits in manufacturing, notably enhancing productivity by 10% and facilitating a 20% reduction in maintenance expenses. Thus, the adoption of intelligent edge solutions in manufacturing settings contributes to continuous production line operations, averting the financial implications associated with production stoppages.
