At embedded world 2023, on the Digi-Key booth, Kristian McCann speaks with Espen Krangnes, Staff Marketing Manager at Microchip Technology about Microchip's curiosity boards.

At this talk, Microchip Technology was keen to discuss its wide range of curiosity boards for development applications. These curiosity boards are cost-effective, fully integrated microcontroller (MCU) development platforms targeted at first-time users, makers, and anyone in-between seeking a prototyping board. They are fully integrable with Microchip technologies 8-, 16-, and 32-bit MCUs.

The features of curiosity boards:

  • USB or LiPo battery powered
  • On-board programmer/debug circuit using PKoB4 based on Microchip SAME70 MCU
  • Microchip MCP73871 Li-ion/LiPo battery charger with power path management
  • mikroBUS socket to expand functionality using MikroElectronika Click adapter boards
  • RGB LED connected to pulse width modulation (PWM)
  • One reset switch
  • One user-configurable switch
  • One user LED
  • 32.768 kHz crystal
  • Microchip SST26VF064B 64 Mbit external QSPI Flash memory
  • Microchip MCP9700A low power analogue voltage temperature sensor
  • 10-pin Arm serial wire debug (SWD) header for external programmer/debugger

These boards have the capability to be used in countless applications, the ability to be programmable being invaluable to this process. Whether it be sensor needs, timer needs, or analogue needs, each board can be programmed for these uses. Beyond this, the boards an also be connected together to offer a whole plethora of possible integrations and uses.
