Digi-Key at Embedded World 2022 with Renesas Electronics
At Embedded World 2022, on the Digi-Key booth, Paige West speaks with Mohammed Dogar, Vice President, Head of Global Business Development & Ecosystem and Roger Wendelken, Sr. VP MCU Business Division at Renesas Electronics about its RA Family of Arm Cortex-M based MCUs and AI and ML solutions.
When compared with other RA arm cortex stem MCUs, Renesas RA family had three main advantages:
- Scalable performance – from low to high end, allowing Renesas to cover a wide market.
- Scalability – customers adopting the RA platforms make use of a flexible software platform
- Security – providing security libraries
Renesas is known for providing cryptography and security solutions, stemming from its history of providing transactions security and providing security for automotive and industrial applications. Many of the end point applications are connected to a network, and with connectivity comes flexibility and means of communication, as well as the risk of security breaches.
Renesas provides the security libraries for developers to quickly developer their applications securely if the data is residing on the device, or if they want to encrypt and transition to an end point. This is integrated into the solution as part of its flexible software package. Renesas can provide a kickstart to these applications.
Acquiring Reality AI
Reality AI, a provider of embedded AI solutions, is uniquely placed in this spectrum of AI with many years of experience in providing real time analytics support. Real time analytics is predicted to be one of the highest growing areas, the building and process automation market is already a multi-billion-dollar market.
The acquisition is allowing Renesas to provide a time series, DSP capable solution to its embedded engineers where they can design simple algorithms that can run on simple constrained devices, allowing Renesas to strengthen its complete portfolio with real time analytical solutions. Also, Renesas will be able to provide solutions across different parts of the industry. Reality AI already provides automotive and robotics solutions.
“We are very serious about bringing AI to the masses, that’s really our tagline,” said Wendelken.
