At Embedded World 2022, on the Digi-Key booth, Paige West speaks with Dzianis Lukashevich, Director of Platforms and Solutions Industrial Automation at Analog Devices about embedded, flexible, scalable and intelligent platforms and solutions for Industry 4.0.
Different pieces of equipment from different manufacturers must work in harmony, such a platform or solution should fit as many as possible. It’s about flexibility as the components must be intelligent to work independently and take over some tasks. The platforms can be adopted for small sized customised solutions as well as able to leverage mass production.
Extracting smart data
Depending on the application, it can start with a small sensor in embedded computational resources. An example is looking at machine health. A solution could send an ‘okay’ to the Cloud if the system is working okay, and if it recognises a fault it can pass the data from the sensor to the Cloud. It can even give advice to a technician about how such an issue can be prevented in the future.
AI is playing a key supporting role here. If the use cases are well known, the AI can be embedded close to the centre, however if data flows are large and resources are limited, the AI algorithm must be optimised.
