Avnet at embedded world 2023
At embedded world 2023, Lou Lutostanski, Vice President of IoT at Avnet talks to Electronic Specifier's Editor, Mick Elliott, about security and their agreement with AWS.
Avnet and AWS’ multi-year, joint investment will enable Avnet’s IoTConnect Platform to deliver the breadth and depth of AWS’ portfolio of services. This helps to create a scalable, secure platform that preconfigures AWS’ services for application-specific usage.
Avnet’s IoTConnect Platform aims to help OEMs that are designing connected solutions overcome the pressures of time to market, scalability, reliability, and security.
Many OEMs today are lean organisations that need to continue to invest in the resources that provide differentiated value and deliver the expertise to their market. Despite adding Cloud-connected experiences to their product offerings which can open a world of new possibilities, more often than not it also puts strains on these organisations due to IoT requiring additional software, security, and cloud management skillsets. This is where having access to pre-integrated and abstracted capabilities that they can easily assemble and deploy can greatly accelerate their efforts and reduce overhead. By utilising this capability, it can allow OEMs to focus more on the development of features and applications that truly elevate their connected products and accelerate time to market and less on the technical side.
This strategic collaboration provides Avnet’s IoTConnect Platform with access to AWS’ portfolio of services, including IoT, machine learning, analytics, and compute services.
Looking to the future
“Moving forward we’re looking at adding more features, more devices, and we’re giving customers more options,” says Lutostanski. Beyond just this, Lutostanski says that he and the Avnet team hope to one day see a future where connecting IoT devices is a simplistic task and one that is housed under just a few roofs, as opposed to a clashing world of hundreds of different IoT connectivity platforms.
