EngineeringUK has announced that 400 organisations have now signed up to the Tomorrow’s Engineers Code, a national initiative aimed at boosting the number and diversity of young people pursuing careers in engineering and technology.

The announcement coincides with Tomorrow’s Engineers Week, which runs from 10th to 14th November and celebrates the fifth anniversary of the Code’s launch. The community now includes a broad mix of participants ranging from major corporations and small businesses to Professional Engineering Institutions, charities, and government departments, all pledging to improve inclusion and access within the sector.

Catherine Sturman, Senior Code Manager at EngineeringUK, said the milestone reflected growing momentum behind collaborative outreach in STEM. “It’s fantastic to see the Code community reach 400 members, all committed to inspiring the next generation of engineers in the UK,” she said. “We believe collaboration and a cross-industry approach are key to increasing the number and diversity of young people choosing engineering and technology careers. Last year alone, 71% of signatories worked with others to deliver joint STEM outreach activities, and this is only set to grow.”

Tomorrow’s Engineers Week, themed ‘Dare to Discover’ this year, sees organisations across the UK run events and activities aimed at engaging students in engineering and technology. In 2024, more than 55,000 young people took part in EngineeringUK’s schools’ programme, with many more involved through partner organisations.

Since its establishment, the Tomorrow’s Engineers Code has helped to strengthen understanding of the STEM outreach landscape, with 73% of signatories reporting improved insight into effective engagement, 65% noting enhanced collaboration, and 63% saying they had gained a better understanding of how to represent diversity within the sector.

Rebecca Mulholland, Outreach Coordinator at the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing, said joining the Code had deepened her organisation’s impact. “Being a signatory has strengthened our commitment to inspiring and supporting the next generation of engineers,” she said. “By aligning with a national movement dedicated to inclusivity, collaboration, and impact-driven outreach, we’ve enhanced our engagement efforts, fostered meaningful partnerships, and gained valuable insights into best practices.”

The Code provides guidance and four core pledges to help organisations improve their STEM outreach. It has hosted 38 events since launch, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the sector. The next annual conference, Tomorrow’s Engineers Live, will take place on 10th February 2026.
