Goodwood has launched its Future Lab podcast brought to you by Randox and the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard (8-11th July), home of the Future Lab live exhibition. The podcast, produced by the UK’s largest independent podcast and audio producer, Somethin’ Else, will spotlight the people tackling the biggest problems facing planet earth and pushing humanity to achieve things we’ve never seen before.

Hosted by Future Lab’s curator, Lucy Johnston, the weekly episodes will provide a unique insight into the new technologies and science that are about to shape the world in unimaginable ways, including flying cars, robots and 3D printed food. Guests will include astronaut Tim Peake, racing driver Lucas Di Grassi and the man who created a real life jet suit, Richard Browning.

The first episode, which seeks to understand the magnetic draw of human flight, will be available on all podcast platforms and Goodwood.com from 19th May 2021. Other episodes will cover topics including replacing the human driver, ocean research and conservation, Mars exploration, the future of food, health and extreme sports, and the story of SpaceX.

Commenting on the podcast’s launch, Future Lab curator, Lucy Johnston said: “The launch of the Future Lab podcast is an exciting first in the Goodwood Festival of Speed’s history and I’m thrilled to be hosting the series.

“While the Future Lab exhibition at the event in July will give visitors the chance to get up close and personal with some of the most innovative and exciting technologies on the horizon, this podcast will showcase the stories of the people behind them. The guests we have lined up are truly taking ideas from the pages of science fiction and bringing them to life before our eyes - giving us all a fascinating insight into how ground-breaking innovations become a reality.”

Dr Peter Fitzgerald at Randox added: “We understand the enormous potential of disruptive innovation through our own work in healthcare - and we also know that whilst innovation is never easy, the benefits can be immense. This podcast series is an opportunity for some of the best and brightest minds in technology to share their unique and compelling stories, insights and experiences.

“The Future Lab event has always served as a platform for innovators to showcase the cutting-edge technologies of the future. This podcast is just the latest example of the amazing work that the event is doing to make tech innovations accessible and relevant to everyone.”

Astronaut Tim Peake, who features in episode one, also commented: “Technology, engineering and innovation are vital skills for future careers. Future Lab embodies everything that we should be doing to inspire our younger generations and help them to reach their full potential.”

The podcast is available on all platforms from 19th May, and the goodwood website.
