Eaton opens sustainable factory in Norway to boost production

Developed for use in harsh and hazardous areas, Eaton’s HERNIS turnkey system solutions, which are part of its Crouse-Hinds series portfolio, are designed for oil and gas onshore, offshore, marine and mining environments where cybersecurity and resilience to harsh environments are critical requirements. 

Growing demand for new energy infrastructure is boosting worldwide demand for HERNIS products which Eaton’s art manufacturing facility will meet. The new factory replaces Eaton’s existing HERNIS plant in Norway which has been developing and producing CCTV technology since 1982.  

Simon Matthieson, vice president and general manager Crouse-Hinds and B-Line Division, Eaton, said: “Our new development and manufacturing facilities in Arendal Norway will be more sustainable and energy efficient, and will be carried out in a building that incorporates leading-edge energy saving technologies. As we enhance and expand production in Arendal, it is a hugely exciting time for the business.” 

Eaton is dedicated to improving sustainability and energy efficiency, and this project is no exception. The Arendal factory, built to Norway’s exacting environmental standards, features high-performance insulation and triple-glazing, and will be equipped for on-site renewable energy generation and energy storage. The heating, cooling, and air-conditioning systems are based on water-to-water pumps fed from eight 250-meter-deep boreholes.  

The approach taken to developing the building and the production line means that compared with the previous HERNIS production facility, total electricity consumption will be reduced by more than 80%.
