Google has unveiled the 10th generation of its smartphone, introducing the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL. These are powered by its Tensor G5 chip and its newest Gemini nano model.
Other features of note include the Pixelsnap accessory for built-in Qi2 wireless charging and a 6.3-inch Actua display brighter at 3,000 nits.
The Gemini nano model will now be able to run on the Tensor G5 chip, Google’s custom silicon, to enable on-device generative AI experiences such as the Magic Cue feature, which uses Gmail, the calendar, screenshots or Maps to bring up relevant information during phone calls or text messages.
It shows how smartphone manufacturers have increasingly embraced on-device generative AI features to distinguish themselves in a competitive market, enjoy the advantages that lower latency and greater responsiveness running models on the Edge allows, and keeping data private. The Samsung Galaxy S24 series onwards, for instance, uses on-device generative AI to provide users with the ‘Circle to Search’ feature where users can find out more information by circling it on their screen.
This will be the first Tensor G5 chip manufactured by TSMC after Google moved from Samsung Foundry to TSMC earlier this year in what was reported to have been a shocking development for Samsung. Experts have cited Samsung’s lower yields, higher chip prices and questions over its ability to fulfil large-scale orders as having been compelling reasons for Google to make the move. Another reason posited is that 30 hours of battery life the new Pixel 10 offers, compared with the previous generation which had 24+ hours.
The G5 chip was designed on the 2nm process node from TSMC. The chip, according to Google, is 34% faster than the average CPU and in a press briefing said it consists of one big core, five medium cores, and two little cores compared with last year’s chip, which had one big core, three medium cores, and four little cores. It would not specify what these cores were.
Pricing is expected to be (for all phones in the 256GB model):
- Pixel 10: $899
- Pixel 10 Pro: $1,219
- Pixel 10 Pro XL: $1,319
- Pixel 10 Pro Fold: $1,919
According to Counterpoint Research, global smartphone revenues grew 10% YoY in Q2 2025: the first time it had exceeded $100 billion in a second calendar quarter. However, it reported that global shipments were only a 3% rise YoY.
