The F.A.Z.-Institut – a subsidiary of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung – ranks Inova Semiconductors among the leading innovation drivers in its current study, “Germany’s Innovation Leaders 2023”.

The study, conducted by Prognos AG on behalf of the F.A.Z.-Institut and the Institute for Management and Economic Research provides an up-to-date and comprehensive overview of German innovation leaders. As in 2021 and 2022, the Munich-based semiconductor company is once again in the top group of the most innovative companies in Germany. The study was based on patents registered and their relevance for the development of the industry.

“We are delighted to receive our third consecutive award from the F.A.Z.-Institut in recognition of our consistently high innovation performance over many years,” says Robert Kraus, CEO of Inova Semiconductors. “With APIX and ISELED/ILaS, we have already developed world-leading technologies for modern in-vehicle display and lighting applications. With our latest creation, ADXpress – a kind of data super-highway for the car of tomorrow – we are once again demonstrating our company’s enormous innovative strength.”

The study analysed all patent families worldwide over the last ten years. Based on established metrics, the applicants’ innovation leadership and research activities in Germany were evaluated for over 500 fields of technology and knowledge. The study is based on data from the European Patent Office’s Worldwide Patent Statistical Database. This database contains more than 100 million patents from all leading industrialised and developing countries and, therefore, from all economically important countries in the world. Patents provide a far-reaching insight into the research activities of companies that no other data source can offer. The innovativeness and leadership of companies in Germany are assessed using two metrics: “Leadership – how much does an invention influence other inventions?” and “Novelty/innovativeness of the invention – how much can an invention be differentiated from previous inventions?”

In each field of knowledge and technology, German innovation leaders were those companies that were cited more frequently by others and thus played a significant role in shaping the respective field of knowledge and technology.
