maxon, the manufacturer of DC motor and drive solutions, is exhibiting at SPACE-COMM EXPO, at the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre, 6–7 March 2024.

The exhibition is the UK’s largest space industry event and maxon will present its drive systems for space applications.

The maxon SpaceLab, part of the company’s R&D group, specialises in commercial ‘new space’ applications, space science missions, as well as extreme environments, such as cryogenic and ultra-high temperature, vacuum, radiation, as well as high mechanical shock and vibration.

Development from maxon SpaceLab has led to precision drive systems that include brushless and brushed DC motors with ironless windings, flat motors with iron cores, as well as gearheads, spindle drives, encoders, and control electronics – all designed for the extreme environment of space.

maxon’s drive systems have been used in space missions including the International Space Station (ISS) and various satellites. maxon products have also featured on all of NASA’s Mars rover landings, including the history-making Ingenuity Mars helicopter, as well as NASA’s Perseverance and Curiosity rovers that continue their Mars mission today.

At SPACE-COMM EXPO, maxon will also present applications including rocket engine valve drives, solar array drive and deployment systems, docking and separating system actuators, as well as mission-specific mechanisms for research spacecraft and robotic probes.

On stand L2, space engineers can talk to maxon’s Aerospace and Space Application Engineer, Andrew Gibson, who will advise on motion system specification. Andrew will also participate in the event’s Meet the Buyer sessions, an opportunity for buyers and suppliers to meet face-to-face for 15-minute, pre-approved meetings.
