TVR Instruments, a distributor of low voltage instrumentation and power management products, is introducing a range of measuring and protection devices for domestic and industrial EV charging installations

This introduction is scheduled for the London EV Show, taking place from 28-30 November at the London ExCel exhibition centre.

FRER Srl, an Italian manufacturer of measuring and protection devices, has expanded its range of earth leakage relays, including Type B Earth Leakage Relays, for electric vehicle charging installations and sites. This range includes three products suitable for domestic charge points, roadside EV charging stations, and larger public installations.

The domestic charge point market is addressed with the XTDB019 - a residual direct current monitoring module. This module is electrically coupled to a protection or switching unit, fulfilling the role of a residual direct current monitoring device in accordance with IEC 62955 standards. Optionally, the module can also monitor residual alternate current, meeting the threshold and timing requirements for residual direct current - protection devices (RDC-PD). The XTDB019, suitable for AC charging stations connected to the mains, features a 19mm wide cable passage and is available with an optional UART communication.

For EV charging station switchboards and large installations, FRER produces a series of Type B Earth Leakage Relays, including the X35DB, X48DB, and X72DB. These relays are designed for the detection of continuous, alternating, and high-frequency leakage currents.

The XxxDB series relays offer continuous and real-time monitoring of fault level current, with a colour display showing the fault level and digital measurement indicators. These programmable relays are compatible with the FRER toroid design TDB sensor range, suitable for mixed AC and DC powered networks and available in internal dimensions from 28mm to 210mm. The TDB sensors detect AC and DC leakage currents from 30mA to 50A AC and DC, with higher current systems up to 3600A catered for by the TDB321050 and TDB471050.

The relays are set for tripping level, allowing for operation across the entire sensitivity span and are available in 35mm DIN rail, DIN48mm, and DIN72mm panel mounting formats. The FRER XxxDB family meets the IEC62423 standard for overcurrent protection, covering cardiac fibrillation and fire prevention. Additional variants include a real-time clock for event logging and Modbus RS485 for remote monitoring.

FRER has also introduced the COMBI 6, a multi-channel earth leakage relay for monitoring and protecting up to six independent systems. The COMBI 6, spanning three DIN modules with a total width of 55mm, optimises overall dimensions and simplifies installation. Each channel has a removable terminal block for easy wiring, and four front keys allow for immediate programming. The instrument enables channel selection via push-button control and displays the last tripped channel in case of trip intervention. The Combi 6 is available in three versions: Type B only, Type AF only, and a mixed Type B/AF with five input combinations.

As a bronze sponsor of the London EV Show, TVR Instruments will exhibit a variety of FRER measuring and protection devices on Stand EP18 from 28th to 30th November at the London ExCel exhibition centre.
