Forecasters say the Internet of Things (IoT) market will be worth between $7trn and $9trn by 2020. That is exciting chip makers and their distributors. Rutronik is keen to promote its activities on behalf of its suppliers and is rolling out a series of one-day seminars which will embrace networking with sensor developments, two technologies driving many developments related to the Internet of Things (IoT).

In a global series of seminars, the distributor will work with a focus group of manufacturers, to introduce innovations from these sectors – from wireless components and sensor technologies to power management solutions and microcontrollers through to boards, displays and storage components.

The one-day seminars series will start in London on June 4. During the course of the year, there will be additional dates in Germany, Sweden, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Slovenia, the Netherlands and in China.

Participants can choose between a Smart and an Embedded seminar, each of which take place at the same place and at the same time.

The Smart seminar is geared towards developers who design their own modules and use SMT components in the design. The seminar focuses on smart devices within the Internet of Things, especially on the segments Lifestyle (e.g. wearables, sport applications, indoor navigation solutions), Comfort (e.g. home automation, illumination and climate control systems, home appliance), Healthcare (e.g. patient monitoring, hearing aids, diagnostics carts) and Safety (e.g. surveillance and alarm systems, tracking and tracing solutions, smoke detectors). The components for these segments are optimised to work with the IPv6 Internet protocol, particularly small model sizes, low energy consumption and highest possible integration. During the Rutronik Smart Seminars, companies such as Microchip, Nordic Semiconductor, Panasonic, Redpine Signals, STMicroelectronics, Telit and Yageo will introduce the latest wireless components and modules. In the sensor technology sector, the latest technologies, trends and application options will be illustrated for products from Bosch Sensortec, Panasonic, Rohm, STMicroelectronics and Vishay. And, not to be ignored, the topic relating to power supply, energy harvesting, wireless charging and highly efficient ICs from Diodes, Intersil, STMicroelectronics and Microchip in these sectors.

The Embedded seminar is geared towards developers who use a mainboard as the basis for their pluggable peripherals with standard interfaces. The applications from the focus markets industrial automation, transportation, medical and digital signage are characterised by the demand for ruggedness, long-term availability and a high degree of integration capability.

Designed for these applications especially, the latest embedded boards offered by Rutronik's partners Advantech, Fujitsu and F&S Elektronische Systeme are presented during the seminar, as are the storage components from Transcend and Toshiba and displays from NLT.

Advantech and Telit demonstrate how these applications can be networked with the latest wireless components and modules. Rounding off the program is a presentation of FSP power management solutions.

To the extent possible, these seminars will be held in the language of the country. The seminars are free of charge. Due to limited places, you will need to register at www.rutronik.com/IOT_Seminars_2015
