At the Hannover Fair, the steute business division Extreme will be presenting its Ex HS 98 position switch. The difference between this switch and other position switches in the extensive steute range for explosive environments is that it does not work with conventional ‘on-off’ technology. Instead, the switch emits an analogue signal which corresponds to the position of the actuator or plunger. The position is registered by an integrated Hall sensor which produces the output signal in one of the three prevailing standards 0 … 20mA, 4 … 20mA or 0 … 10V, depending on the variant.

This function has been incorporated into the well-established Extreme position switch 98 series featuring, amongst other things, a robust metal housing, high protection classes and standardised dimensions in accordance with DIN EN 50041. The different actuators can be mounted in positions offset by four 90o. The analogue position switch can therefore be integrated flexibly in its surrounding construction, especially as it can be individually programmed in the factory and thus ideally adapted to suit the application in question.

In accordance with its ATEX/IECEx approval, the explosion-proof variant of the HS 98 is suitable for use in gas Ex zones 1 and 2, as well as dust Ex zones 21 and 22. Its features make this robust analogue position switch suited to the precise position monitoring of flaps, valves and other control elements installed in explosive environments.
