PCIM Expo & Conference 2025: a resounding return
From 6th–8th May 2025, the PCIM Expo & Conference once again brought the global power electronics community together in Nuremberg, delivering a showcase of innovation, research, and technical dialogue. As the leading industry platform for product debuts, technological breakthroughs, and scientific discovery, PCIM 2025 reflected the sector’s growing focus on energy efficiency, sustainability, and practical system-level solutions.
This year marked a milestone in scale: with six exhibition halls and 41,500m² of show floor, the event drew 685 exhibitors and approximately 16,500 visitors. For the first time, 62% of exhibiting companies came from outside Germany – a record that underscored the show’s international relevance and the global nature of today’s power electronics landscape. From system developers to semiconductor manufacturers, the event provided a comprehensive overview of the challenges and opportunities shaping the sector worldwide.
The accompanying conference brought together 818 participants from 26 countries and featured 433 expert-led presentations covering cutting-edge topics across device, system, and materials research. Attendees were able to explore developments in wide-bandgap semiconductors, packaging, drive systems, and energy infrastructure, with strong emphasis on electromobility, digitalisation, and climate-conscious design.
We at Electronic Specifier were thrilled to be back on the show floor, welcoming familiar and new faces to our booth. It was a pleasure to engage in insightful conversations, hold interviews, and take the pulse of the industry at such a dynamic and energised event. The return of this momentum – marked by full halls, packed technical sessions, and animated networking – was a clear sign that power electronics continues to evolve with real purpose. Personal highlights included Pulsiv’s low-temperature USB-C modules, Menlo Micro’s Ideal Switch-based power architecture, and Texas Instruments’ continued leadership in efficient system design.
The positive tone was echoed throughout the exhibition, as long-time participants and new entrants alike commented on the event’s role in shaping the future of the field. Karim Zaibat, Business Manager at Cefem Industries, shared: “The company has been exhibiting here for 20 years for the simple reason that we think that PCIM is one of the most important exhibitions for power electronics in the world… Even after 20 years, we continue to meet new contacts within the community – customers, leads, suppliers or engineers – they’re all here over three inspiring days, year after year.”
Thomas Neyer, Senior Vice President at Infineon Technologies, added: “The PCIM is much more than a conference – it offers space for dialog, international partnerships, and innovative forms of collaboration across company boundaries.”
Technical talks covered the practical implications of industry megatrends, from decarbonisation to AI-driven optimisation, and emphasised how academia and industry are converging to produce actionable, scalable solutions. Pietro Scalia, Senior Director at Renesas Electronics, commented: “Our time at the PCIM is full of highlights – expected and unexpected ones… Networking, chance meetings, the opportunity to solve tangible problems and tackle prevalent issues – this is important for the power electronics community to move the technical and business progress of our industry forward.”
The PCIM Conference itself stood out as a platform for high-level technical exchange, featuring keynote sessions from renowned experts including Dushan Boroyevich (Virginia Tech), Michael Harrison (Enphase Energy), and Johann W. Kolar (ETH Zurich). Their insights framed the conference's ambition: to catalyse the next generation of power electronics solutions for challenges such as grid stability, energy conversion, and electrified transport.
Beyond the annual gathering, the PCIM – Hub for Power Electronics is positioning itself as a continuous touchpoint for industry professionals. Through formats like the PCIM Magazine, News Platform, and After Work Events, the hub enables ongoing access to expert content and facilitates global connections in key domains such as sustainability, miniaturisation, and digital transformation. As Lisette Hausser, Vice President, noted: “The PCIM – Hub for Power Electronics connects the international power electronics community across national borders… We can play a role in driving innovation and the continuous development of the industry.”
As the industry moves into a period marked by tighter integration, higher efficiency standards, and unprecedented demand for scalable solutions, PCIM 2025 made clear that power electronics will continue to play a central role in shaping the technologies of tomorrow.
