Oscilloscopes and power supplies for power electronics applicationswill be featured by Rohde & Schwarz at PCIM 2019 in Nuremberg (May 7-9). Highlights include high-sensitivity oscilloscopes with fast FFT functionality for EMI debugging in fast‑switching applications as well as the new Bode plot functionality integrated into oscilloscopes for control loop stability testing.

The oscilloscopes focus on the increasing challenges and stringent requirements for power electronics measurements. Rohde & Schwarz will parade the R&S RTM3000 and R&S RTA4000 oscilloscopes, each of them focusing on three important application areas concerning power electronics design.

Increasing switching speed in power electronics involves the risk of higher electromagnetic interference (EMI), turning EMC compliance into a challenge. With fast and easy‑to‑use FFT functionality, the R&S RTM3000 and R&S RTA4000 are particularly useful for EMI optimisation on power supplies.

They can correlate electromagnetic emissions in the frequency domain with the corresponding signals in the time domain, allowing a deeper insight into the root-cause of unwanted emissions. This helps developers minimise unwanted EMI from switched-mode power supplies right on the lab bench.

Both instruments offer high-resolution with 10-bit vertical resolution and ultra-deep memory, allowing longer periods of time to be captured at full bandwidth.

The R&S RT-ZHD high-voltage differential probe family and the R&S RT-ZD10 broadband differential probe enable accurate analysis of the switching operation in power electronics designs.

TheR&S RTx-K36 Bode plot option for the R&S RTB2000, R&S RTM3000 and R&S RTA4000 oscilloscopes enables control loop stability tests on switched-mode power supplies without the need for separate test equipment.

In addition, it allows the characterisation of filters and amplifier circuits as well as measuring the power supply rejection ratio (PSRR).

The option uses the oscilloscope's built-in waveform generator to create stimulus signals for the DUT. It displays the results as a Bode plot or in a table.

Other instruments on display are the R&S NGL200 power supply and the R&S Scope Rider. The NGL200 power supply series was designed specifically for challenging applications that require high accuracy and fast load recovery times.

The Scope Rider is a handheld oscilloscope with up to four isolated input channels with CAT IV 600 V / CAT III 1000 V rating offering lab performance in a portable design.
