At DSEI 2017, on Stand S3-255, TMD Technologies (TMD), a West London based SME in the microwave and RF field, will be introducing two new TWT based Microwave Power Modules (MPMs): The PTX8110, 6-18GHz, 200W unit and the PTX8815, Ka band, 1,100W unit.

PTX8110 compact, high power MPM for radar and EW
The PTX8110 operates from 6-18GHz at 200W and, with its compact design, is easily integrated into those high performance EW and radar systems requiring higher power.

Comprising a high power helix Travelling Wave Tube (TWT) and switched mode power supply, the PTX8110 forms a single ‘drop-in’ microwave amplifier unit without the need for potentially unreliable high voltage TWT interconnections. A low gain TWT is specified together with a low noise solid state preamplifier to provide optimum noise performance. It features high electrical efficiency, needs a minimum of cooling and operates over a wide temperature range - at high altitude and high humidity.

PTX8815 Ka band MPM for high performance radar
The PTX8815 TWTA from TMD is designed for Ka band radar applications such as naval fire control. Featuring broadband capability, covering 34-36GHz, it offers a peak power of over 1,100W in the mid-band, and 600W at the band edges with a maximum duty of up to 12%. This top class TWTA is the answer to high fidelity radar requirements for low close-to-carrier phase noise and spurious performance. This development follows the launch last year of the PTX8807 Ka band, 200W MPM which is aimed primarily at EW applications and which will also be featured at this year’s show.

PTS6900 solid state MPM
Emphasising its capability in advanced solid state innovation, TMD will be exhibiting the PTS6900 MPM - which employs the latest GaN MMIC technology. This MPM is optimised for EW/ECM systems, and operates over the 2-6GHz range with a power output of 150W and adjustable 55dB gain. It features a very high predicted MTBF in an airborne uninhabited fighter environment.

TWT based PTXM series ultra-compact MPMs
Offering very low volume and weight, TMD’s TWT based PTXM series are designed for airborne radar, EW and communications and are suitable for UAVs. They operate over the 4.5-18GHz range with output powers up to 140W. Incorporating mini TWTs and super efficiency packaging, they offer probably the highest power density on the market today.
