electronica experiences first high-profile cancellations

Avnet and Farnell have become the first companies to announce they will not be attending electronica later this year in Munich, writes Mick Elliott

Rob Rospedzihowski, President, Sales for Farnell in Europe told Electronics Specifier, that the decision had been made on the grounds of health and safety of its employees.

Although much has been made of the increased use of online meeting portals including Zoom and Microsoft Teams, this was not a factor in the decision.

“Safety of our employees is the prime reason. Large gatherings have and continue to be cancelled, like Oktoberfest, and we viewed a large exhibition with thousands of people as not right for us in terms of meeting with customers and suppliers,” said a company statement.
