Sapience is a simple solution to connect manufacturing machines to each other and to a host system. It offers an economic and scalable solution and can connect to multiple machines using many communications protocols and it will be demonstrated by Cimetrix at productronica in Munich (November 12-15).

Manufacturers want to embrace Industry 4.0 and all the associated benefits but need to get the digital building blocks in place. The foundation of digital transformation is connectivity, so if this can be done simply, manufacturers can focus on adding value on top of that connectivity using intelligence derived from data.

Sapience is an Industrial IoT platform that manufacturers, software developers, and OEMs can use to gain access to equipment that traditionally has been difficult to connect, and is built with modern, web-enabled tools that can be deployed on-premise, in the cloud, or in a hybrid deployment model.

The platform is built to exploit the cost-effective use of machine learning and analytics tools which public cloud providers spent years innovating and perfecting, according to Ranjan Chatterjee (pictured), Cimetrix Vice President, SMT Division.

Cimetrix will also be demonstrating an SMT-ELS connectivity simulation.

SEMI SMT-ESL suites covers the function that existing IPC-SMEMA has and adds data communication capabilities to make assembly lines smarter.

With this additional function, data for automatic changeover and inspection of the substrates can be forwarded to post-process.

SEMI SMT-ELS, SEMI A2: "Specification for Surface Mount Assembler Smart Hookup" (SMASH) was proposed by SMT assembly equipment suppliers and uses the general purpose advanced M2M interface "SEMI A1/A1.1" as the base protocol.

Cimetrix will offer visitors to the booth a free GEM tester and ELS tester, which allows users to quickly confirm their equipment’s capability to connect.
