Taking place in the technology hub of Toulouse, the 18th edition of the HiPEAC conference will take place on 16-18 January 2023.

An opportunity for cross-sector, interdisciplinary networking, the event will bring together computing systems experts from all over the world to exchange ideas and get the bigger picture on technological development.

"The heart of the Aerospace Valley, home to companies such as Airbus and Thales Alenia, Toulouse is a technological powerhouse. It’s hard to think of a more fitting setting to showcase HiPEAC research, some of which powers the next-generation transportation systems bringing delegates to the event," said HiPEAC 2023 General Chair Albert Cohen (Google France). "With its rich culture and world-famous gastronomy, we’re looking forward to giving experts from all over the world a truly French welcome in la ville rose."

"The HiPEAC conference brings together communities from industry to academia, across the computing stack from technologies to applications, and along the compute continuum from the smallest edge devices to the largest high-performance computers," added HiPEAC Coordinator Koen De Bosschere (Ghent University). "At a time when global divisions seem to be growing, we are more determined than ever to help researchers break out of silos and create value across the board."

The event kicks off on Monday 16 January with a high-octane keynote talk from Subhasish Mitra (Stanford University), who will discuss disruptive architecture concepts integrating memory and computing. Ivo Bolsens (AMD) will give the industry keynote on 17 January, with a tour of scalable artificial intelligence architectures for edge and cloud, followed by an address by the European Commission. The final day features a keynote talk by Liliana Cucu-Grosjean (Inria) exploring probabilistic approaches to real-time, safety-critical systems.

The conference will also see the launch of the 2023 HiPEAC Vision, HiPEAC’s roadmapping document setting out the future of computing systems in the context of social and business trends.

Every HiPEAC conference features a rich programme of parallel sessions to complement the main paper track, and this year is no exception, with a total of 32 workshops and eight tutorials.

Highlighting the latest advances in European computing research, these sessions range from long-running workshops such as RAPIDO and PARMA-DITAM to those making their debut this year.

Highlights include:

  • New processors on the block: the latest applications of reconfigurable computing will be on display in the WRC, F4HD, Adaptive4AI and Versal ACAP AI Engines sessions, while new directions for the RISC-V open-source architecture will be explored in different sessions.
  • Disruptive paradigms and concepts such as neuromorphic systems, post-quantum cryptography and memory-centric computing.
  • Focus on safety-critical systems: building on European strengths in embedded systems, several workshops will centre around cyber-physical systems (CPS), which require ever-more compute power and artificial intelligence (AI) functionality while meeting stringent safety requirements. In addition to the FORECAST, STEADINESS and ENHANCE workshops bringing together different CPS communities, there are workshops on mixed-critical systems, concurrency in embedded systems, model-based design of safety-critical systems, drone systems engineering, adaptive CPS systems of systems and next-generation real-time embedded systems.

As part of HiPEAC’s efforts to bridge communities, the conference will once again feature a STEM Student Day, which this year includes an enhanced matchmaking service as part of the jobs fair. In addition to full access to the conference, student participants will benefit from a discussion on careers and the chance to meet representatives from the most exciting companies in technology, plus the opportunity to submit CVs in advance and arrange interviews with participating companies.

This edition of the conference has attracted the highest level of sponsorship yet, and the number of returning sponsors is an indication of companies’ confidence in HiPEAC. Among the sponsors in the exhibition and industry session are some of the biggest names in technology, including Huawei, AMD, ASML, DeepMind and Google, not to mention a host of innovative HiPEAC start-ups and scale-ups, from Axelera AI to ZeroPoint Technologies.
