Same Sky’s AMT25 series has been shortlisted for the Electronics Excellence Awards under the e-mech category.
Same Sky’s AMT25 series is a rugged, high accuracy absolute encoder outputting 12 bits or 14 bits of absolute position information with Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) communication and single-turn or multi-turn output options. Based on Same Sky’s proprietary capacitive sensing technology, the series combines high durability and accuracy with added resilience to dirt, dust, and oil that can plague other encoder technologies in industrial environments. Housed in a compact 42.3 x 42.3 x 13.5mm package, the series offers high accuracy position data, low current consumption of 16mA at 5 V, and a wide -40 to +105°C operating temperature range. This makes the AMT25 absolute encoder ideal for a range of industrial, automation, robotics, and renewable energy applications as well as battery-powered devices where energy consumption is a major design consideration.
Thanks to the digital nature of the encoder design, the AMT25 series allows for significant time savings during the motor installation process. Typically, when aligning an encoder, the user must go through a tedious installation process to accurately align the mechanical disk. The AMT25 encoder is unique in that its zero position can be set digitally (single-turn versions only). With the push of a button (or more accurately, the delivery of a serial command), the encoder can be instantly aligned to its current position. The AMT25, being ASIC and MCU based, reduces this time-consuming process to a few seconds, saving time and cost during the manufacturing process.
In addition to simplified assembly, the AMT25 series also supports nine different shaft sizes ranging from 9 to 15.875mm. Whereas other encoders can typically only support a single shaft size per encoder, Same Sky’s AMT25 series supports over 15 configurations under a single SKU. This gives engineers ultimate flexibility during development or production, while saving time and money without having to swap out an encoder each time a new configuration is needed.
