ZF Electronics GmbH, part of the worldwide ZF Group, has announced that it has exceeded budget forecasts across most of its international operating divisions for the first quarter of 2010. The company reports that ZF Electronics Europe is 30% over budget on sales, the USA is up 46% on forecast and ZF Electronics UK has also turned in Q1 results ahead of expectations, despite lengthening lead times over recent months due to increased worldwide demand for raw materials. The company, which manufactures products for three main markets: computer input devices, the automotive sector, and industrial and domestic goods, also reports a very strong order book going forward.
ZF Electronics UK is confident on building on a large contract win it had last year, when its G83-6644LUAGB-2 smartcard keyboard, which incorporates a class-2 chip card reader, was an integral part of a successful tender for the Gateway high security programme for the West Midlands police force. Now this project has gone live, the fully-integrated high-security system means that all police personnel can use smartcards when logging onto police computers, enabling them to access different applications with Single Sign-On (SSO). Smartcards are also used to control entry to buildings across 38 different sites. This project formed part of the NPIA initiative, which is set to be introduced to other police forces throughout the country over the coming months and ZF Electronics UK shortly expects to sign a contract to supply further smartcard keyboards devices as part of the next phase of this project.
