Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a world leader in product safety testing and certification, announced today that it will be the exclusive co-sponsor of Verizon Communications' Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) Conference through 2014. This year's event - Verizon's 16th annual conference - takes place Oct. 6-7 at the Camelback Inn in Scottsdale, Ariz. and will focus on the convergence of wireless and broadband networks.
Verizon is pleased to collaborate with UL because of its expertise in the NEBS and Fiber Optic Compliance (FOC) arena, said Chuck Graff, director, Corporate Network & Technology, Verizon.

UL and Verizon have a long-standing relationship helping the industry in past conferences navigate through complex changes in the telecommunications industry. We look forward to UL's continued leadership in future conferences.

The event will provide a unique opportunity for participants to learn how the convergence of wireless and broadband networks will create new services, applications and products that providers will use to transform their networks and businesses. There will be an emphasis on the wireless sector, which is quickly advancing 3G systems while developing the architecture and tools needed to move to 4G.

UL's leadership team will speak to equipment manufacturers, test laboratories and systems integrators. Keith Williams, president and CEO, UL, will deliver the keynote on the evolving convergence of technologies. Clyde Kofman, senior vice president, UL, will discuss smart grid wireless applications.

We are honored to be Verizon's exclusive co-sponsor for the next four years, said Carlos Correia, vice president, UL High-Tech Division. UL is in a great position to provide specialized knowledge of equipment conformance and performance needed as technologies continue to evolve and converge in the global marketplace.

In addition to network convergence, the event will focus on how Long Term Evolution (LTE) and IP Multimedia Subsystems are shaping technologies in the radio access and core networks. The conference will also explore energy efficiency as providers seek to push operational cost lower while extending the service life of products. Finally, innovations in fiber optic technology will be examined in the context of supporting LTE backhaul networks that operate at increasingly fast speeds.
