New research from Omdia finds that transparent display revenue is projected to reach $100.2 million in revenue by 2032, registering a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.3% from 2025 to 2032. While unit shipments remain limited, the market is expected to experience significant growth in revenue and total display area shipped. Growth will be driven primarily by large-format deployments in public display environments, supported by ongoing improvements in transmittance and scalable panel sizes.

Advancements in transmittance and size

Over the past decade, panel makers have introduced various transparent display formats utilising TFT-LCD, PMOLED, AMOLED, LED and micro LED technologies. These technologies offer distinct advantages regarding size, pixel density, and transmittance (TR). While early iterations faced limitations in size (PMOLED under 2″) or transmittance (TFT-LCD under 20%), recent developments have helped overcome these barriers. AMOLED displays have expanded to over 70″, while LED and micro LED technologies now offer transmittance rates exceeding 70%. Consequently, adoption is expected to increase gradually as technology is matched to the requirements of specific applications.

Growth in public display applications

Despite supply from numerous manufacturers, transparent displays are currently utilised for specialised purposes, such as public displays, media walls, and showcases, rather than personal devices. This points to a market shift toward larger form factors, including signage and other commercial installations.

“Transparent displays are designed to be sufficiently see-through for objects to remain visible through the screen, enabling a merged view of real-world objects and digital content. This enables more immersive content that blends into the physical environment,” said Jerry Kang, Practice Leader at Omdia.

Kang added: “As the size of transparent displays increases, the unit area price (UAP) becomes more important. While the display size and pixel density of AMOLED and micro LED are well-suited for transparent display, their UAP is estimated to remain high. Consequently, LED Film display solutions are gaining popularity due to their ability to support large display sizes, despite lower pixel density.”
