BAE Systems has approved Tekdata Interconnect Systems as subcontractor for electrical manufacture and test of aircraft loom assemblies for the Eurofighter Typhoon. The approval, which follows a detailed audit of Tekdata’s quality management system, is valid from now, opening the possibility of Tekdata supporting Eurofighter for the next 30 years. Throughout, BAE Systems will make periodic assessments to validate continuing compliance to approval standards.
A leading UK-based wiring systems specialist, Tekdata provides cable harness design, rapid prototyping, manufacture and cabinet and box assembly services to some of the world’s largest avionics and defence companies. The initial scope of the work for BAE Systems will focus on the Eurofighter Typhoon project and Tekdata expects this to expand thereafter to other projects.

“We have developed a strategy for the development of our supply chain and are pleased with Tekdata’s approval,” a BAE spokesperson stated. “Supplier partnerships give us the ability to become more flexible and to cope with the growing demands and expectations of our customers.”

“We are delighted to have won approved supplier status to the Eurofighter Typhoon programme” commented Terry McManus, Tekdata quality manager, “and hope this will be the start of a long-term, mutually beneficial, partnership with BAE Systems.”

Typhoon is the world’s most advanced swing-role combat aircraft, developed by Europe’s leading aerospace companies: Alenia Aeronautica (Italy), BAE Systems (UK), EADS in Germany and EADS CASA in Spain.

The aircraft is in service with the airforces of these four nations and will be the cornerstone of NATO defence capability for the next three decades. In addition, other nations have ordered or selected the Typhoon as their next-generation fighter. The Royal Air Force has already taken delivery of over 35 Typhoons and the four partner nations have between them delivered over 100 production aircraft.
