Solar technology contracts activity rises 14% in 2019

North America solar technology contracts in Q2 2019 saw 84 contracts announced, marking a rise of 14% over the last four-quarter average of 74, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of solar technology contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  • Power Purchase Agreement with 38 contracts and a 45.2% share
  • Project Implementation: 31 contracts and a 36.9% share
  • Supply & Erection: ten contracts and an 11.9% share
  • Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 3.6% share
  • Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 1.2% share
  • Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 1.2% share.

The US was the top country in the North America region for solar technology contracts recorded in Q2 2019 with 78 contracts and a 92.9% share, followed by Mexico with four contracts and a 4.8% share and Canada with two contracts and a 2.4% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were: 

  1. NV Energy (United States): 475MW from one contract
  2. Ball (United States): 388MW from one contract
  3. Longroad Energy Holdings (United States): 379MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. 8minute Solar Energy (United States): 475MW from one contract
  2. Duke Energy Renewables (United States): 388MW from one contract
  3. Swinerton Renewable Energy (United States): 379MW capacity from one contract.
