At the SID Display Week 2015 International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition, organised by the Society for Information Display, Dow Corning will exhibit its EA-4600 HM RTV Black UV silicone hot-melt adhesive. The event is scheduled to take place from 31st May to 5th June at the San Jose Convention Center.

Ryan Schneider, an Application Engineering and Technical Service Specialist at Dow Corning, will present a technical poster titled Silicone Hot-Melt Adhesive Providing Protection, Waterproofing and Reworkability for Precision Assembly of Electronic Devices. This will take place on 4th June from 5 to 8pm in Ballroom 220A. The poster outlines the benefits of the company’s adhesive for both the processor and the end user. Graphs detailing cost of ownership, reworkability, open time, push-out adhesion strength and lap shear adhesion strength are all included, as are details regarding precision narrow beading and a brief guide to product application.

The adhesive is a reactive material that can be applied neatly as a liquid melt in bond lines measuring less than 0.5mm in width. It cools quickly and cures at room temperature, providing strong, flexible, primerless adhesion to common plastic and metal substrates. The EA-4600 HM RTV Black UV adhesive offers extended service temperatures from -40 to 150°C. While the material will soften when exposed to high temperatures, it will revert to its typical properties after cooling.

To support automated UV inspection of finished parts, the material incorporates UV markers. The EA-4600 HM RTV Black UV adhesive can also be easily reworked within 24 hours of application. Once fully cured, the adhesive delivers outstanding durable protection against chemicals, water and dust to enhance the reliability and performance of high-value electronics assemblies.

“As demand for next-gen smart devices continues to accelerate and design trends increasingly favour narrow bezels, OEMs are seeking adhesives that can help them meet their design and manufacturing goals,” commented Schneider. “The EA-4600 HM RTV Black UV hot-melt adhesive is easily dispensed and able to deliver instant green strength upon dispensing, which can help speed assembly operations. The strong bonds it forms after full cure also support the cost-effective, water-resistant narrow bezels that many designers are incorporating into their next-gen concepts for smartphones, tablets and wearable technologies.”

Display Week attendees can learn more about the EA-4600 HM RTV Black UV adhesive at the Ellsworth Adhesives and Krayden booths, which are numbers 1245 and 1519 respectively.
