Electronic recycling business ShP Limited has more than doubled its turnover as UK businesses and consumers grow ever greener. Despite the recession, the Lancaster based business leapt to a £8m turnover, up from 3.9m in 2008. It now employs 80 people and is aiming for a £12m turnover in the next financial year.
In a year that saw ShP secure contacts with some of the world’s largest brands, it also won a place in the Sunday Times top 100 Best Small Companies to Work For and expanded the business oversees to introduce its services to the Middle East and Europe.

Simon Walsh, co founder of ShP Limited, said:

“We’ve succeeded in getting these results by the sheer hard work of the team at ShP. In a tough year for businesses- doubling our turnover is a major achievement, and we’ve done this through careful financial management and a commitment to our environmental responsibilities.

“The WEEE Directive means all businesses must dispose of their electronic waste responsibly so there are lots of opportunities for our business to grow and support firms. We’re always on the lookout for new ventures and have some exciting announcements to make in coming months to take the business forward.

“More and more businesses are taking their environmental responsibilities seriously and disposing of equipment properly. There really is no excuse for any electrical item ending up at landfill.”

This year, ShP has also given more than £500,000 to charities through its sister company ShP for Charity. Charity partners include Greenpeace, Missing People and Make a Wish.

Established in 2002, ShP has evolved from a b2b handset recycling business to a full electrical and electronic recycling business. It works with phone networks, government bodies and the public, through consumer site mopay.co.uk.
