NeoPhotonics Corporation announced today that its Shenzhen, China operation was honored by the Shenzhen Bureau of Science, Technology and Information which has designated the company as a “Center of Excellence” for Engineering and R&D.
Started in 2001 to promote “high tech enterprises to contribute to the innovation and industrialization of China”, the Shenzhen Government carefully selected a number of companies to support key national technology objectives. NeoPhotonics’ Shenzhen plant was then appointed by the Shenzhen Government as the “Shenzhen City Engineering and R&D Center for Optical Components and Modules”. After an intensive and vigorous re-evaluation process earlier in 2009, the Shenzhen Bureau of Science, Technology and Information awarded NeoPhotonics China with the renewal and accorded it with the “Center of Excellence” designation.

This designation is the latest in a series of awards by different government agencies for NeoPhotonics this year. These include awards for the company’s innovative development of GPON OLT SFP plus a second aware for its small form factor SFP/SFF optical transceiver modules. The company also has received additional recognition due to its record of high volume export of optical components and modules to overseas customers in 2008.

“We are delighted to receive the special recognition of an Excellent Engineering and R&D Center by the Shenzhen Government,” said KY Chan, General Manager of NeoPhotonics China. “Shenzhen is a great environment for high tech manufacturing and R&D operations and we are glad to be in this beautiful and efficient city. Our engineers represent the top tier of talent in the industry and match well the needs of our customers. The strong and continuous support of the Shenzhen Government help to enable NeoPhotonics to become the leader in optical components in China and a world leader in the optical component and subsystem industry.”

Besides government recognition, NeoPhotonics China regularly receives awards for its contribution to industry standards and patents. The worldwide portfolio of more than 200 patents held by the NeoPhotonics group ensures the company’s technological leadership in the optical communication industry.
