Semikron takes over the 50:50 joint venture Vepoint. Vepoint will be working with the company Magna E-Car systems, which it will be supplying with power electronics from the Nuremberg site.
Vepoint is a 100% subsidiary of Semikron Automotive Systems GmbH & Co. KG and consequently part of the international Semikron Group. Vepoint can draw upon a wealth of expertise that the parent company has built up over the past few decades, having established itself as one of the key developers and manufacturers of power electronics for the hybrid and electric vehicles sector.

With its takeovers and cooperation partnerships, Semikron - a one-stop supplier of hybrid and electric technology – is once again pointing the way in the automotive industry. Besides the Vepoint takeover, Semikron has also entered into a joint venture with Drivetek, a service provider in the area of control engineering. Plus, the development specialist for electric control and drive concepts, Compact Dynamics, was the target of a majority takeover by Semikron in 2010.

Vepoint develops and produces power electronic components and systems such as inverters, DC/DC converters and charging devices for the automotive market, optimised for hybrid and electric vehicle applications. The aim here is the reduction of space requirements, achieved by way of increased power density and degree of integration.

“With 50 employees, we are able to meet the ever increasing efficiency demands being placed on power semiconductor technology in the booming hybrid and electric vehicle market. Power electronics remains instrumental with regard to the future e-mobility sector, especially with a view to increasing emissions levels and the scarcity of resources,” explains Riccardo Ramin, Managing Director of Vepoint.
