Based on the latest WSTS data, the new European Semiconductor Industry Association (ESIA) report revealed that European semiconductor sales in June 2017 reached $3.165bn, an increase of 18.3% compared to June 2016. On a worldwide basis, semiconductor sales in June 2017 were $32.642bn, up 2.0% from May and up 23.7% versus June 2016. All monthly sales numbers represent a three-month moving average.

The mid-year European sales picture confirms the overall robust 2017 growth of the European market: year-to-date semiconductor sales during the first half of 2017 were 14.6% higher than they were at the same point in the year 2016.

Looking at month-to-month sales, stronger European demand for discretes, optoelectronic devices, MOS microcomponents and memory devices contributed to the positive 1.9% growth registered in June over May. Sales of application-specific chips also grew strongly in June, with IC cards and automotive performing particularly well.

Exchange rate effects continued to affect the European sales picture, albeit to a lesser extent than in the few past months. Measured in Euro, semiconductor sales were €2.880bn in June 2017, up 0.1% versus the previous month and an increase of 21.5% versus the same month a year ago.
