RFaxis has announced its collaboration with Freescale Semiconductor to deliver high-performance, cost-effective ZigBee/IEEE 802.15.4 and ISM solutions for smart energy, Home Area Network (HAN), industrial, and consumer applications in the 2.4GHz frequency band.
An immediate outcome of this collaboration is a new ZigBee range extension reference design that features the RFaxis single-die RFX2401 RF Front-End Integrated Circuit (RFeIC™) chip paired with the Freescale MC1321x and MC1322x series of ZigBee compliant platform ICs.

RFaxis and Freescale share a common vision for driving unparalleled value in the ZigBee market, said Raymond Biagan, RFaxis Director of Business Development. Our customers have a rapidly growing need for robust radio frequency (RF) communications with proven reliability, simplified system design, affordability and scale. Given that our RFX2401 is engineered to meet RF Front-end requirements stemming from this need, it made perfect sense to combine forces with Freescale and jointly deliver complete, high quality, plug & play ZigBee solutions to enable rapid traction and success for these customers.

We are excited to partner with RFaxis on reference designs for our MC13213 and MC13226 802.15.4 and ZigBee ICs, said Matt Maupin, Product Manager at Freescale Semiconductor. With the growing list of ZigBee applications that require higher output power for extended range, the RFaxis RFX2401 together with Freescale's family of ZigBee ICs provide customers with a highly integrated, high performance and cost-effective ZigBee/ISM platform.

The RFX2401 RFeIC™ is a fully integrated, silicon-based, single-chip/single-die RF Front-end device that includes all the RF functionality needed for ZigBee/802.15.4 and ISM applications operating in the 2.4GHz band. The RFX2401 architecture integrates the power amplifier (PA), low noise amplifier (LNA), transmit and receive switching circuitry, matching network and harmonic filters, all on a single silicon die, and is commercially available in a standard 3x3x0.5mm QFN package.
