Radiocrafts announced it has been awarded two major contracts in the smart metering market in India. The two leading electricity meter manufacturers in India have chosen a wireless meter reading solution from Radiocrafts.

The cost competitive wireless mesh network module has been developed together with Tiny Mesh. The multi-hop, self-configuring and self-healing mesh networking protocol is integrated in a compact RF module of only 12.7x25.4mm, showing an unmatched combination of performance and cost. By adding this module to the utility meter, a two-way radio link is established to cover all utility meters in an area, at a minimal cost. Gateways connect the network to the internet for cloud based data storage.

Radiocrafts already deployed over 300,000 units in India over the last few years. This has given confidence in the market, and proven the wireless technology for both smart metering and street lighting applications. With the new contracts the number of units will be doubled.

“This is a great reward after many years presence and hard work in the Indian market," says Hallvard Moholdt, Manager, Technical Solutions. “The Tinymesh protocol has become a de-facto standard for enabling smart meters in India. This will also help us to enter new geographies and market segments where RF mesh networks are the optimum solution.”.

“These new contracts confirm Radiocrafts’ and Tiny Mesh’s position as leading providers in the large and competitive smart metering market for wireless collection of utility meter data,” says Peder Martin Evjen, Managing Director, Radiocrafts.
