ProVision Communications and Zenverge launch the AXAR2010i; the world’s first multi-channel, multi-room wireless HDTV gateway

ProVision Communication Technologies Ltd, a UK wireless video technology provider and Zenverge, a leader in advanced media ICs are demonstrating the AXAR2010i, an advanced multi-channel, multi-room HDTV over Wi-Fi gateway at CES 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The AXAR2010i is based on the Zenverge ZN200, the industry leading 4xHD advanced media codec and transcoder system on a chip. The ZN200’s application processor executes ProVision’s end-to-end wireless video software delivering reliable and robust HD video at all receivers. The software is licensable for OEMs and can operate either standalone or as an add-on module to multi-room set-top boxes and residential gateways.

The AXAR2010i can handle up to four 1080p video streams simultaneously, employing a video quality based statistical multiplexing algorithm to ensure video quality, and can be applied to coax, power-line and wireless technologies. In addition, ProVision’s dual band directional antenna system provides significantly enhanced range and throughput at significantly lower cost than other ‘video class’ antenna solutions.

Consumer demand for wireless multi-stream, multi-room High Definition TV is clear; whether the source is set-top box, DVR, Blu-ray player or IPTV says Steve Cliffe, ProVision CEO. Coax, power-line and wireless technologies will all play their part in the connected home, but clearly the need to deliver to laptops, smart phones and other mobile devices will drive wireless connectivity. Zenverge’s ZN200 provides an ideal platform for our QoS [quality of service] software as it allows for managing multiple streams of HD.

Service providers worldwide are transitioning to delivery of broadcast and stored content to multiple screens throughout the home with high QoS, says Amir Mobini, Zernverge CEO. We collaborated with ProVision to provide unprecedented performance and a robust implementation that addresses the performance and QoS issues for transmitting video content over wireless that is critical to mass deployment.
