Premier Farnell has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard (CTS) for measuring, managing and reducing its carbon footprint by 2% for its UK-based operations and committing to reduce it year on year. The company has already reduced its global carbon footprint by 20% within a period of three years.

The Carbon Trust Standard is another achievement in line with Premier Farnell’s environmental programme and follows on from achieving the Energy Efficiency Accreditation in 2007 (the predecessor to the CTS). This latest award recognises the continuation of the company’s commitment to reduce energy consumption and decrease the overall environmental impacts of its own operations. Premier Farnell is also recognised by the Business in the Community Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index and has already achieved Platinum status in the environment category and achieved Gold status for its overall commitment to Corporate Responsibility.

The Carbon Trust Standard, issued by the Carbon Trust Standard Company, is awarded to organisations that proactively measure, manage and reduce their carbon footprint within stringent guidelines. The Standard measures electricity and gas consumption, on-site energy consumption (including heating and cooling), fuel consumption, as well as the organisation’s internal and external programmes to promote energy efficiency.

“The Carbon Trust Standard is a trusted mark of excellence that recognises organisations that demonstrate a genuine commitment to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change,” said Harry Morrison, General Manager of the Carbon Trust Standard. “The Carbon Trust Standard awarded to Premier Farnell shows their leadership in the electronic design engineering industry.”

“It is an honour to be recognised as a Carbon Trust Standard award recipient, demonstrating our continued leadership and commitment in the reduction of emissions into our environment,” said Steven Webb, Company Secretary and General Counsel for Premier Farnell. “As a leading global distributor of electronic components, Premier Farnell’s strategy is to meet the needs of design engineers as they create the products of tomorrow. Electronics has been the driver of unprecedented change over the last fifty years, transforming mankind’s ability to adapt, change and flourish. As we face the threat of climate change, electronics will be at the heart of the response. We believe we can develop and grow our business sustainability, working with our suppliers and customers to help them find ways of addressing this threat, and making a positive contribution to society.”
