picoChip has won the Chip Design, Industry Innovation and Industry Choice Awards at the Best of WiMAX World Awards 2007, taking home 50% of the awards available. The awards recognize leaders in the development and deployment of WiMAX technologies.
picoChip is extremely honored to have won three awards at the Best of WiMAX World Europe Awards 2007 in the week that we launched our new WiMAX product. As the leader in femtocells and the industry-standard WiMAX reference design it is fantastic to be publicly recognised in this way. We are particularly proud of the accolade bestowed upon us by the conference delegates with the Industry Choice Award, the first ever such award,” said Guillaume d’Eyssautier, CEO and President at picoChip.
Nominations were open to exhibitors and sponsors of the conference, held May 29-31, in Vienna. After receiving almost 40 nominations, an independent panel of judges determined the best of the WiMAX community in five award categories. New to the Best of WiMAX World Awards program this year is the Industry Choice Award. This award was chosen by the delegates at the WiMAX World Europe Conference & Expo and represents who among the 13 finalists they feel to have made the most significant contribution to the WiMAX community this year.
Eliot Weinman, president of Trendsmedia, the events and publishing division of Yankee Group that produces WiMAX World Conferences & Expos, and Mike Saxby, group publisher of xchange magazine, presented the awards in six categories, with picoChip winning three for the company’s WiMAX femtocell technology: Chip Design award for the PC205 processor aimed at femtocell design, Industry Innovation for the WiMAX-based femtocell concept and the Industry Choice Award for the WiMAX femtocell reference design.
“The WiMAX World Award program provides a forum to honor innovation in the WiMAX area. The winner of the Industry Choice Award not only has to pass a screen of expert judges, but also earn the votes of its peers. picoChip can take pride in that accomplishment,” said Saxby. “WiMAX success is dependent upon sustained innovation of companies like picoChip that will no doubt be rewarded in the marketplace but also deserve recognition by the community it supports.”
“Winning three awards demonstrates picoChip’s place among the leaders of the WiMAX industry,” said Weinman. “This is the first year in which we have offered an industry choice award, and we are pleased to award it to picoChip, picoChip clearly has the respect of the entire industry, and we look forward to seeing more of their good work in the future.”
picoChip unveiled the next version of its industry-standard award-winning WiMAX basestation reference design at WiMAX World Europe this week. The new PC8532 WiMAX platform is the only basestation reference design to support WiMAX Wave 2 and IO-MIMO, and scales from access point (femtocell) to sophisticated multi-sector carrier macrocells. The PC8532 is used for WiMAX certification and has already demonstrated the widest range of interoperability with third-party terminals.
Finalists were selected by an independent judging panel, including Craig Mathias, principal, Farpoint Group; Will Strauss, principal analyst, Forward Concepts; Adlane Fellah, CEO and founder, Maravedis Inc.; Caroline Gabriel, research director, Rethink Research; Philip Marshall, vice president of enabling technologies, Yankee Group; James Farstadt, founder and president, rClient LLC; and representatives from xchange and Trendsmedia.
