Optelian CTO Sheldon Walklin to discuss evolution of switching on Oct 9 at WDM & Next Generation Optical Networking USA event in Dallas

Optelian announces that its Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Sheldon Walklin, will participate in an interactive panel session on the evolution of switching on Wednesday, October 9 from 11:20 – 11:50 am at WDM & Next Generation Optical Networking USA. The conference will take place at Hilton Doubletree Campbell Centre in Dallas, TX, on October 8 and 9.

The panel will investigate the key question of how switching will evolve. Some of the possibilities that will be explored include ROADMs, OTNs, or packet switching. These options will be evaluated in terms of cost, flexibility relation and customer requirements. This group of experts will also focus on quantifying the benefit of integrating OTN switching, incorporating GMPLS control plane intelligence and what SDN means for the emerging converged optical transport layer with integrated switching.

“I am very much looking forward to exploring the many facets of this important issue with my colleagues,” says Dr. Walklin. “Switching is certainly a feature of our industry that has seen a variety of exciting advances and I think this panel will help us all further establish how we approach these changes.”

WDM & Next Generation Optical Networking USA is an optical transport conference that addresses optical networking topics for tier 1 and tier 2 & 3 carriers.
